William Lawton, CEO, SeaGate Global Capital, Ltd

Mr. Lawton advises the SeaSpire team principally with respect to private investment opportunities in Asia and providing access to global capital through Seagate Global Capital, Ltd, Hong Kong. He is the founder and CEO of Seagate Global Group (www.seagateglobal.com), a private investment organization he founded in 1996 that is dedicated to producing consistently high returns while helping people and the planet.

Mr. Lawton has over 30 years’ experience as an investment professional, with deep experience and professional contacts in Asia. Career highlights include serving in a senior advisory role in the founding of the People’s Bank of China (China’s central bank), where he set up risk management systems, investment strategies and trained staff in the early 1990s. Mr. Lawton served as a senior strategist to Chinese government officials in the transition of Hong Kong to Chinese rule in 1997, and was selected by China Everbright to establish its asset management department, and where he launched one of the first private equity funds for foreign investors in China. From 2004 to 2013 he served as a Director of various CITIC Capital International investment funds. Prior to founding Seagate, Mr. Lawton held senior level positions and set up investment operations at Fireman’s Fund/American Express, First Interstate Bank, Nikko Capital Management, and Trust Company of the West.

Mr. Lawton received his BA in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley, his MA in International Economics from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and his MBA from Columbia University. He serves as an Adjunct Professor of Finance at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Mr. Lawton’s philanthropic efforts are focused on creating sustainable economic development through his Program of Global Excellence (POGE) which now has over 60,000 family members in the Philippines and Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.
